Ricoh screwed me

11 May

2 years ago, i bought a CL2000 printer (Ricoh), thinking that i would be using this one for the upcoming 5 years, as i am not a frequent print-guy, paperless office remember ? Very good printer, stable, fast, not too noisy….

CL2000 Now after 1year and a few months, the color began to fade. Pages came out semi-printed, right untill the point i couldn’t print anything at all. So i called the Ricoh helpdesk, as i was pretty sure the machine was still under warranty (2years), they told me to contact me reseller, and let him manage the warranty.

So that’s what i did…I sent a mail to the computershop where i bought this machine, very nice people. They told me to bring in the machine, so that’s what i did…So now yesterday i got word of Ricoh, seems like my printer is totally screwed, but what is worse is the reason :

Ricoh service checked my machine and noticed that there was still a coating/plastic underneith 2 of the toner cartridges. (see pictures below). So 2 years ago, when installing the machine, i was stupid enough to pull out 2 of the plastics, and leave 2 others behind ??!…In these kind of situations it’s always my word against theirs, but i am fully convinced that i couldn’t be this stupid leaving 2 of those plastics behind. So now i ask myself :

  • Why couldn’t a 700$ machine not detect there is something wrong with the feeding of the toner ?
  • Why do these problems popup after 1,5 year after about 1000 prints ?
  • Why didn’t maintenance tests on the machine itself (color correction, alignment & refill status) not notice there was something wrong ?
  • How could those plastics screw up the entire machine ?
  • After taking out the toners at the office & in the computershop, we didn’t notice the plastic coating outselves ?

I was informed there are alot of broken / to-be-replaced parts on the machine. Apparently these costs will climb to about the price of a new machine (or even more expensive), +500€. I attached the pictures below, before you start accusing me how stupid i am, i am really sure i followed instructions, and also fully convinced “home-installations” need to be made “fool-proof”, that means the machine should detect a problem….

Now lets hope when they send this machine back, we can still use some parts. As i know several people that use the same machine.

(@damned) one time, my mom asked me if she copied something, and then unplugged the mouse and plugged it into another computer she could paste it

Alright. 5 reasons why I’m convinced that my penis runs Linux.
1. I can create child processes
2. I can handle multiple users on any platform at once.
3. I’m VERY user friendly.
4. I have incredible uptime.
and 5. When my system load gets too heavy, I end up dumping my core and the system shuts down.

Good Software

8 Aug

I created this page mostly for myself to have an overview of software i use on my systems.

Allway Sync : This freeware apps allows you to syncronize multiple devices. The app accepts commandline arguments for all your scripting needs. You also have the option to set the syncronisation direction & analyse before you sync. Great app !

Flashfxp
: Without a doubt the best FTP/FXP client on the market, this software costs 25$ (see below)

PuTTy : A very good free ssh/telnet client, works like a charm, i tend to use the portaputty release so i can take it wherever i want

Truelaunchbar : Because windows (and kde/gnome) is lacking the ability to create custom root application menu’s, i use this nifty thirth party app to add menu’s to the top & bottom of my screen to have quick access to the common utils/commands. A personal licence costs 19$, and it’s worthy it.
WinSCP : Freeware SFTP and SCP client, i wouldn’t trade it for anything

Xplorer Pro : a very nice explorer replacement, very handy for file management because this application has 2 windows (similar to norton commander), i use the pro version that will cost you EUR 19.95, i couldn’t live without this anymore.

Zend Studio Pro : a PHP IDE that has cvs/svn integration aswell as an advanced debugging system. Best PHP IDE Around
As you already know by reading my blog, i like open-source software, but i also think that good software needs support, and there is no shame in asking money for a nice piece of software. I would like to urge you, if you like to work with the above software, to support the company and buy a licence !

OpenVPN : i use VPN to connect to the office from outside. OpenVPN is a free & very stable client for Windows machines.

Programming Humor

Two ints and a Float are in a bar. They spot an attractive Double on her own. The first int walks up to her. ‘Hey, baby’, he says, ‘my VM or yours?’. She slaps him and he walks back dejected. The second int walks over. ‘Hey, cute-stuff, can I cook your Beans for breakfast?’. After a quick slapping, he too walks back. The Float then ambles over casually. ‘Were those two primitive types bothering you?’, he remarks. ‘Yes. I’m so glad you’re here’, she says. ‘They just had no Class!’

I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.

Stupidity strikes

27 Jan

I read this story (scroll down and read the description) about a stolen Apple Powerbook. Two theives stole a powerbook in an office in Sydney, Australia. The morons were stupid enough to connect the powerbook (unaltered) on the internet. But thats not all..*mwuhahaha* Stupidity strikes once again, the guys checked the company email, that way they left their ip adress on the mailserver log files…The owner of the portable soon was onto them and decided to send them an email of the security camera showing different image of their faces entering the building…

And it get’s worse !!! Because they got scared by the email sent to them, they decided to called the owner anonymous (yeah right !) on his cellphone to promess he would get the portable back by taxi post if no further actions were taken. They really knew what they were doing as they turned caller-id off !! haha, like thats gonna help….Guys if i were you, i would go find a good lawyer before the police knocks your door down, good luck !
I had a great laugh with this one (full story). One the otherhand, a good lesson for the owner that you should always back up your important information !

About me

27 Dec

I am a 25 year old IT consultant from Belgium, Leuven. Since August 2006 i work as a fulltime web developer in my own company. At this moment my company exists of 3 people ( 2 fulltimers ), and business is doing very good as we have plenty of projects. We mainly focus on database driven applications for .eu companies, institutions & organisations.

Now on the personal record : Most of my evenings are filled with work, and in the spare time that i have left, i always have to start by cleaning the mess i made when i was in a rush to get somewhere (clothes on the floor, mess everywhere, …). Besides that i try to have a good time with my friends, going out, watching movies, drinking & playing games. My girlfriend tells me i am a gadget freak, but i do not completely agree.

I’ll try to integrate a portfolio sometime soon…
